Misc Stories BY EPHRAIM S. WILLIAMS
All had to move out of their dwellings. The river was crossed for a long time by a boat ferry. The west side of Saginaw street from Walker's corner was burned to the river. It was soon rebuilt with very fine two story wooden buildings, mostly all painted white and making a. good appearance when' finished and occupied for business. Fire again burned it all out nearly to the river, then it was rebuilt with brick as at present, and thus we have progressed.
Notwithstanding all these disasters we had lots of fun and many laughable incidents—which cannot well be laid before the public—yet the few left now have many a good hearty laugh over those times, and enjoy talking them over frequently.
RETROSPECTION
BY EPHRAIM S. WILLIAMS, OF FLINT
[Incidents connected with the building of the old court house now (March 3, 1886), being torn down at Saginaw City; the contract for the erection of the building signed nearly half a century ago; the bids for doing the work, the name of the contractor, etc. ]
Forty eight years ago to-morrow (March 3, 1886) marked the day that a ¦ contract was signed for the erection in Saginaw county of a building suitable to the needs and requirements of the county officials of that time. The day upon which this forty eighth anniversary may be recorded will also witness the destruction of the building. Workmen for the three weeks past have been engaged in tearing it down, and its forty eighth birthday may only be written on a pile of debris.
