CARRIAGES AND WAGONS. There are in Jackson seventeen manufacturers and dealers in carriages and wagons. The "Austin Tomlinson & Webster Manufacturing Company " have a contract at the state's prison, and make lumber wagons and trucks. It is one of the largest establishments in the country. J. W. Hewitt & Son, Jno. Anderson and Goodrich & Sparks are manufacturers of carriages of all kinds. The patent side springs of J. W. Hewitt & Son are rapidly gaining favor wherever they are in use. The exclusive right which they possess to use these springs has caused the business of Hewitt & Son to assume large proportions.
CORSETS AND HOOP SKIRTS.
The "Bortree Manufacturing Company " is engaged in the manufacture of corsets and hoop skirts. It is one of the largest manufacturers of this class of goods in this country. Most of its work is after patents, owned by Mr. Bortree or the company. Constant employment is given to some 200 girls, besides other employes. M. K. Bortree, general manager, and Charles W. Higby secretary, have charge of the business of the company
