Jackson

SECRET SOCIETIES. MASONIC. St. John's lodge, No. 8, (F. and A. M.) was established in Jackson, June-5,1845, by removal from Brooklyn, but the charter was surrendered soon after. Jackson lodge, No. 17 (F. and A. M.) was established under dispensation. It has since continued a successful and useful existence.
Michigan lodge, No. 50, (F., and A. M.) was instituted on the 3d of February, 1852, and. has proved an able and useful assistant to the older lodge from which it is an off-shoot. Jackson chapter, No. 3, (R. A. M.) was constituted by dispensation from G. R. A. C. of U. S. A., on the 31st day of May, 1847, and has so well performed its mission that no desire has ever been expressed for another. Jackson commandery, No. 9, was chartered February 15, 1860, and is now one of the best organized in the state. Jackson council of R. and S. M. was instituted September, 1870.
