Michigan Judges George G Bates
I remember perfectly well when the bankers used to say, " I wonder where
Felch is to-night." He went down to Pontiac and examined $10,000 of specie, and before he got through his examination it counted for about $10,000,000. Now if the greenback and silver men want anybody to
inflate the currency, they can't get a more efficient man to do the work than Gov. Felch.
We got on board a half-finished stern-wheel steamer, which was covered with carpenters and engineers. It was the first trip of the boat, and part of the time we were in the tops of basswood trees, 200 feet high, sometimes out on the prairies, and the rest of the time in the river. We reached Niles long after midnight. This was about June 6, 1834. We | Went up to the hotel. The moon was shining brightly, and when we went into the house I noticed two most beautiful girls. My hair curled
in those days, and I was called a great lady's man.
