The Scinaps exploring company depart on their first exploration, October 9. 1821. This company was organized to explore the wild country which now constitutes the northern counties of the lower peninsula of Michigan, find the results of their explorations were of so favorable and important a character that they were published in the National Intelligencer and other papers of the day.
Col. Stephen Mack finishes six miles of the road towards Pontiac.
The first public sale of lots at Pontiac took place July 18, 1821. Sixty village lots were sold at prices ranging from $20 to $70.
Independence was celebrated for the first time in Macomb county, July -4, 1821; Thomas Ashley, president; John Stockton, vice president.
There were four flouring mills in Michigan, aside from wind mills, viz.: that of Col. Mack, at Pontiac; of Capt. Ben Woodworth, at Paint Creek, Rochester; of Marsh & Co., at Monroe, and A. Edwards' horse or team mill,
ENUMERATION OF EVENTS
Detroit. The latter was known as the Ox mill, and was situated on the river front of the Cass farm.
Wheat sells at $2. 01 per bushel. Flour at this time was put and sold in sacks. The first export of flour from Michigan took place in 1827, when 200 barrels were shipped to the east-by Miller & Jermain, of Monroe.
